Getting Where You Are. Steven Harison

Getting Where you Are

We investigate spirituality, either to supplement our religious beliefs or to replace them. We try yoga, meditation, astrology. We are getting healthier, quieter, lighter. We talk the talk and we even walk some of the walk. We speak with authority about the heart chakra and our Moon in Capricorn. We sit in the lotus position, a rose crystal hanging from our necks, carefully chewing and tasting the freshness of the spinach and sprout salad with fat-free balsamic vinaigrette dressing. We have made great strides in this self-less-ness business. We are very enlightened. Actually, we are very confused. The urgency in our life has taken us to the facsimile of selflessness. It looks like the real thing, but we know the fact. The self is in great shape, enjoying all the accoutrements of spirituality. From its narcissistic perspective, the "me" is better than ever. The self has discovered selfishness in its pursuit of selflessness.
